Australia — National SES Week, which runs from November 8 to 16, is the perfect time to consider becoming a volunteer.
Across NSW more than 10,000 SES volunteers in 227 locations selflessly help their communities in times of crisis.
According to Liverpool SES controller Stephen Fulton, Liverpool volunteers are always ready to help when disaster strikes.
“Our volunteers train to national competencies in a wide range of field and office-based roles to ensure that when they are needed, the SES is ready to rise to the challenge,” he said.
“Being a volunteer is a great way to give something back to the community, learn new skills and make lasting friendships.”
The roles undertaken by the SES vary from unit to unit, but include flood and storm response, road crash rescue, vertical and general rescue, community first response, searches for lost and missing people and support for the Rural Fire Service during bushfire emergencies.
“Many SES volunteers find their experience and commitment are highly regarded by employers.”
Liverpool SES Unit will hold an information night at 67 Pearce Street, Liverpool on Wednesday November 12.
