South Africa — City fire fighters spent a sweltering two days battling flames in neighbouring Limpopo province as part of an ad hoc fire response team assembled to quell a raging bush blaze.
Last week Monday the Limpopo Disaster Management Centre sent an urgent request to the National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) for assistance in the form of fire-fighting vehicles and manpower.
The request was to support local efforts in containing and extinguishing an extensive uncontrolled bush fire in the areas of Bela Bela, Thabazimbi, Dwaalboom and Alma.
Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson Johan Pieterse said the request was disseminated to the Gauteng Provincial Disaster Management Centre (GPDMC) for co-ordination and mobilisation.
