GFMC and the Global Wildland Fire Network are serving as member of the Science &Technology Partnership under the United Nations Office for Disaster Reduction (transited from the former Working Group 4 “Wildland Fire” of the former UNISDR Inter-Agency Task Force for Disaster Reduction) and Coordinator of the UNISDR Wildland Fire Advisory Group and the Global Wildland Fire Network (GWFN). The GWFN and the International Wildfire Preparedness Mechanism (IWPM) serve as Voluntary Commitment to the Implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030.

Home Organization of the ECE/FAO Team of Specialists on Forest Fire and International Forest Fire News (IFFN) coordinated / edited by the GFMC (1989-2014).
GFMC is serving as a Specialised Euro-Mediterranean Centre under the European and Mediterranean Major Hazards Agreement (EUR-OPA), a platform for co-operation between European and Southern Mediterranean countries in the field of major natural and technological disasters.
In preparation and following up the OSCE Ministerial Council Decision 6/2014 the GFMC is the implementation partner of the OSCE fire management programmes and projects in the South Caucasus, Central Asia and on contaminated terrain in Europe.

A Memorandum of Understanding signed between the FAO and the GFMC in December 2004 provides the basis for a close partnership. The GFMC has prepared the Multilingual Wildland Fire Management Glossary, the FAO Guidelines on Fire Management in Temperate and Boreal Forests, and prepared the Global Forest Fire Assessment 1990-2000 (in the frame of the Global Forest Resources Assessment 2000) and served as co-coordinator and main author of the Global Forest Fire Assessment 2005, and the development of the International Strategy to Enhance International Cooperation in Wildland Fire Management.
