Como se recuerda, el desastre natural inició el pasado 5 de agosto, según dieron a conocer los guardaparques del Parque Nacional de Cerros de Amotape y la Reserva Nacional de Tumbes, quienes se apersonaron hasta ambas zonas situadas en el distrito de Pampas de Hospital.
Ante el crecimiento progresivo del fuego, la emergencia tuvo que ser atendida con suma inmediatez, por ello 14 miembros de la denominada Brigada Norte, implementada por el Sernanp, acudieron hasta el lugar. Dicho conjunto tiene como principal objetivo atender oportunamente los incendios forestales y otros tipos de emergencia.
El incendió dejó al menos 20 hectáreas de pastizales afectadas. Para las labores de control de incendios se contó con el apoyo de ganaderos de la zona y del país vecino del Ecuador, que justamente colindan con esta área natural protegida.
Las causas del siniestro aún son materia de investigación. Se tiene previsto implementar acciones de recuperación de las zonas afectadas.
