Como autoridades, la secretaria política municipal, María Tercero Juárez y el secretario político departamental, Johnny Gutiérrez Novoa, han estado monitoreando el seguimiento del incendio forestal.
De manera preliminar se conoció que hasta el martes, la afectación era de 5 manzanas de bosque secundario de diferentes especies como: almendro, palo de agua, cativo, chaperno, indio desnudo, guabo, ilolillo, palmeras y guarumo, entre otros.
El incendio forestal es grande e intenso, avanza de este a oeste, y ya pasó al otro lado del caño Fish Creek, rumbo a El Castillo, en donde hasta esta tarde no había familias en peligro.
La mañana de este miércoles un grupo de 150 personas, entre particulares y de instituciones como el MARENA, INAFOR, Policía Nacional, MINSA y brigadas ecológicas salieron a las 5:30 de la mañana con el propósito de sofocar el fuego, el cual hasta la tarde no se había podido controlar.
Hasta el momento se desconoce qué o quién pudo haber originado el incendio que se ha propagado por la Reserva Biológica Indio Maíz, considerada una de las reservas naturales mejor preservadas en nuestro país.
El área que comprende es de 3 mil 180 kilómetros cuadrados, y es donde se encuentra una inmensa variedad de flora y fauna, mamíferos, reptiles y mucho más.
