TFS crews head to South-West Victoria to battle peat fires

AUSTRALIA – Tasmania Fire Service has been enlisted in the fight against peat fires in South-West Victoria
Three compressed air foam enabled trucks, accompanied by TFS volunteer crews, were sent to Cobrico on Friday to assist the Country Fire Authority in battling the blazes.
More than 200 firefighters are batting the peat fires, which have been burning for more than one week.
The fires have released a concerning amount of poisonous carbon monoxide into the atmosphere, according to the TFS.
Thousands of people have been forced from their homes to take refuge at Warnambool and other nearby towns to escape the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
The blaze covered about 58 hectares and was seven metres deep as of Friday morning.
