Mexico – Cusco Tras una ardua labor de cinco días, guardaparques del Servicio Nacional de Áreas Naturales Protegidas por el Estado (Sernanp) y especialistas del Ministerio de Cultura, la Municipalidad Distrital de Machupicchu y Defensa Civil, controlaron el incendio forestal que se registró en la zona oeste del Santuario Histórico de Machupicchu.
El siniestro que se registró en los sectores de quebrada de Aobamba, Cerro Calvario y Torrepata en el distrito de Machupicchu, afectó aproximadamente 302 hectáreas de cobertura vegetal compuesta de pajonal, pastos nativos, matorral y zona boscosa nativa como orquídeas.
De igual manera, especialistas del Santuario reportaron la afectación de áreas reforestadas desde el año 2002 con árboles de queuña, aliso, incienso y llama llama.
En la ardua labor de controlar este incendio participaron más de 100 bomberos forestales del Comité Técnico de Incendios Forestales de Machupicchu quienes permanecen en la zona a fin de monitorear cualquier posibilidad de que se reavive el fuego.
Se encuentra en esta zona un grupo técnico de especialistas del Santuario quienes vienen evaluando los daños ocasionados por el siniestro y el inicio de las acciones de reforestación con especies nativas, se informó a INFOREGIÓN.
Según investigaciones preliminares, el incendio habría sido provocado por negligencia de un poblador local, lo cual viene siendo evaluado por efectivos de la Policía Nacional del Perú.
Cabe precisar, que el siniestro no ha registrado ningún tipo de afectación a la Llaqta de Machupicchu ni la ruta de Camino Inka, por lo que la actividad turística en ambas zonas se viene realizando en forma normal sin que se ponga en riesgo la seguridad de los visitantes.
