India —    SHIMLA: An entire village in Chopal area of Shimla was gutted on Thursday, leaving 15 families homeless. There were three fires in Shimla on Thursday, taking the count to seven in the last four days.

Property worth around Rs one crore was destroyed in the fire at Kashah village in Chopal. It destroyed nine houses, two temples, several apple orchards and grasslands.

In another fire at Dakara area of Chopal, a house was reduced to ashes. Although there was no loss of life, it effected a material loss of around Rs 3 lakh. In another case, a forest near Dhingu Mata Temple area also caught fire.

On Wednesday, a fire at Bhattakuffar grassland in Shimla spread to a nearby village but was controlled in time.

In another fire on Monday, a forest fire spread to Chalog village of Junga area. It destroyed one house completely and killed four cattleheads. On the same day, an old abandoned building, which was earlier known as Hindu Hotel at Chaura Maidan, and two nearby shops were reduced to ashes.

On Sunday, six people from two Nepalese families in Sanjauli were left shelterless after a fire.
