Sri Lanka More than 100 acres of land have been destroyed in a forest fire that erupted on the Kandepuhulpola mountain near the Pattipola and Ohiya reserves in the Welimada Secretarial Division.
According to our correspondent, though the fire was contained with the joint effort of the army, wildlife officers and officers of the Disaster Management Centre at around 1 a.m. on Wednesday. However, the fire is yet to be completely doused.
Residents in the area charge that the fire was an act of arson by hunters who intended to engage in illegal poaching activities in the area.
