Hi-tech lifesavers for firies trapped in bushfires

Australia– The state government has unveiled the latest hi-tech, lifesaving equipment for firefighters who become trapped in their vehicles.
The new equipment includes water deluge systems, in-cab air breathing systems and protection for vital equipment such as vehicle wiring as well as water and fuel lines.
“These new systems are part of an ongoing crew protection project that’s provided a safer working environment for volunteer and career firefighters,” Emergency Services minister Joe Francis said.
Regional Development minister Terry Redman said the $15 million project was made possible by a $12 million investment over three years through the state government’s Royalties for Regions program.
“Fighting fires is dangerous work – making that work safer is part of the government’s commitment to support the thousands of firefighters who help protect our communities each bushfire season,” he said.
The first vehicles to be fitted with the latest protective equipment will be in brigades in high bushfire risk areas in the Great Southern
