Russia — Russia’s Emergency Situations Minister Vladimir Puchkov has ordered extra precautions in a number of regions of the country’s Far East and Siberia in view of bad weather and the risk of forest fires, the ministry’s spokesman Aleksandr Drobyshevsky said on Friday.

Additional fire safety measures around communities, critical facilities and infrastructures were introduced in the Amur Region, the Jewish Autonomous Area and the Trans-Baikal, Primorye and Khabarovsk territories starting from April 18 until further notice.

According to earlier reports several thousand men were fighting forest fires in the Amur Region and the Primorye and Trans-Baikal territories on Friday.

In order to protect communities, infrastructures and economic facilities in these three regions the Emergencies Ministry had commissioned a force of 3,500 men, 1,600 motor vehicles and 26 aircraft, Drobyshevsky said, adding that the fire situation was serious but under control.
