Australia — The cost of insurance claims from the NSW fire disaster appears set to exceed $100 million, as hundreds of claims are lodged.
Victims of the fires had made 855 insurance claims worth $93 million on Monday, the Insurance Council of Australia said, and more claims were expected in the coming days.
Insurers have sent teams of staff to evacuation centres in the Blue Mountains to help victims, and ICA chief executive Rob Whelan said anyone affected by the fires should contact their insurer.
