United Kingdom — AROUND 40 firefighters were tackling a wildfire spread over a distance of more than 800 metres in central Scotland last night.

The blaze was reported at 12.15pm yesterday and continued to spread over scrubland and forest near Shielknowes Farm in Slamannan, close to Falkirk.

Officers from Slamannan, Cumbernauld, Falkirk, Larbert and Denny community fire stations were called out to deal with the fire.

A water carrier from Larbert and an off-road vehicle from Dunblane Community Fire Station were also used.

Group manager Martin Brandrick said: “Around 40 firefighters are working in extremely arduous conditions in their attempt to bring this blaze, over an area of approximately 800 metres by 300 metres, under control
using water jets and grass beaters.”

He added: “Additional resources are being used due to the extent of the fire, which has been spread by strong winds.”
