Firefighters spend all night tackling major Swansea grass fire near Morriston Hospital

United Kingdom– FIREFIGHTERS have left the scene of a major grass fire in Swansea which started at 8.20pm last night.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews finally extinguished the blaze at around 7.20am this morning.

The fire at Mynydd Gelliwastad near Morriston Hospital is believed to have destroyed between 60 to 80 acres of grassland.

The blaze was witnessed from locations across Swansea and Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service received more than 160 calls relating to it through the night and into the morning.

A spokeswoman for the service said: “There were crews there all night, monitoring where it was going and making sure properties were not affected.”

The fire followed grass fires throughout the day yesterday in locations across Gower, Brecon and Brynamman.
