Canada — The latest census results for northwestern Ontario are incomplete.

Statistics Canada said 13 remote First Nations aren’t represented in its report because census-takers couldn’t travel to the communities last year due to the severe forest fire situation.

“Access became very difficult,” said Gary Dillon, a spokesperson with Statistics Canada. “Some of the reserves that we could get on … [had] no accommodations, ’cause they were mostly taken up by firefighters.”

Dillon said Statistics Canada had to wait to count the populations of the 13 communities in the late fall. The amended census data for the northwest is expected to be released in the near future.
