Russia — Russias president Medvedev highly appreciated the actions of the Ministry of Emergency on prevention and fire-fighting in the last summer.
On 30 September 2011 the President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev has stated a good estimation to actions on prevention and fire-fighting in the last summer. At a meeting with the head of the Ministry of Emergency Sergey Shoigu the head of the state has praised “the coordinated work of federal and regional structures of the Ministry of Emergency Measures, and also volunteers”.
“After events of last year to the present have started to prepare as for war operations, have created the big groups which in short time can be developed to the huge resources, it is 450,000 fire fighters and 62,000 technical units”, – told Shoigu. As he said that approximately half of technical unites were involved in firefighting operations. The underlined that almost all aircraft are equipped now by water filling devices. Today there are99 helicopters Mi-8 and Ka-32, 14 helicopters Mi-26, and five of the worlds biggest firefighting planes ll-76. By November 2011 the first party from eight planes Be-200 will arrive. Shoigu has added that from aircraft for fire suppression more liquids have been dropped than in 2010, and the Ministry of Emergency Measures needed to request from the Government kerosene for refueling of helicopters from reserve fund. Besides, the Ministry of Emergency Measures acquired 3000 units of the converted land-based firefighting engines.
“154,000 km of fire breaks have been constructed, thus it was possible to protect 4000 settlements from fires”, – the head of the Ministry of Emergency Measures reported.
The minister has especially allocated work of voluntary fire protection which now consists from 21,000 divisions. “These are real divisions: 132,000 firefighters, organized in 11,500 technical units; I check them”, – the minister assured. He invited the head of state, at possibility, to get acquainted with work and the strongest student’s voluntary group created in Rostov. “There competition even above, than for receipt in university”, – has underlined Shoigu.
