China — A forest fire that had been raging since September 13 in mountainous Altay Prefecture in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region was finally extinguished Tuesday morning.
With the efforts of over 900 firefighters and helicopters, blazes in three major sites of the forest fire were put out at about 9 a.m. Tuesday, said a spokesperson with the local fire department.
Firefighters will continue to stand by at the scene to ensure the fire does not reignite, he said.
The location of the fire has been pinpointed at 48.47 degrees north latitude and 87.35 degrees east longitude, which is near China’s borders with Mongolia, Russia and Kazakhstan.
No casualties or live stock losses have been reported.
