Sri Lanka — A sudden forest fire broke out in Galahagama village in the Uva Paranagama Divisional Secretariat Division destroying about 15 acres of forest land, Nuwara Eliya District Disaster Management Coordinating Unit spokesman Eranda Hemawardena told the Daily News yesterday.
He said that the fire was doused with the help of army personnel and Forest Conservation Department officers yesterday morning. The fire had broken out around 10pm on Saturday in the ‘W Kanda’ area which is at the border of the Badulla District. There were no casualties.
He said that the reason of the fire was not known and a probe is underway.
