USA — Firefighters continued to monitor an area of east Edmond where a wildfire destroyed 13 homes and burned more than 1,000 acres of grass.

Assistant Fire Chief Tim Wheeler says crews have contained the blaze and remained at the scene Sunday morning to douse hot spots.

Wheeler says seven houses and six mobile homes were destroyed in Saturday’s fire, along with numerous barns and sheds. There were no reports of injuries.

Wheeler says the fire initially erupted on Thursday and rekindled. Wheeler says people who were evacuated from their residences had been allowed to return home.

The Edmond blaze was one of several grass fires that cropped up on Saturday. Other fires were reported in Canadian, Creek, Garvin, Logan and Pottawatomie counties.

Some homes burned, but no injuries were reported.
