Russia — There is no risk of large peat bog fires in Moscow suburbs now, Federal Forestry Agency head Viktor Maslyakov said on Friday.
Itar-Tass asked him about a possible recurrence of peat bog fires this summer, as the Moscow region already had a number of smoldering peat bogs.
I am confident that the Moscow region will cope with that, Maslyakov said.
More than 17,000 hectares of peat bogs in the Moscow region have been handed over from federal to regional authorities, and the total area of peat bogs in the region exceeds 65,000 hectares.
Some 60 fire-righting vehicles have been added to 159 the region had last year, he said.
