China — More than 1,000 fire fighters, soldiers and forest officials Tuesday night continued to battle a fire that has engulfed over 26 hectares of forest in southwest China, Xinhua reported.
The fire broke out around 11.00 a.m. in the Baoshan area of Yunnan province. The blaze continues to spread due to strong winds. No casualties have been reported so far.
Strong winds and the complex terrain have hindered efforts to put out the fire, an official said. Officials are now hoping to put out the fire before dawn.
The local authorities have dispatched a helicopter to fight the fire. A probe into the incident is also underway.
