Fire burns around 5 acres, damages several homes

USA — Gwinnett County firefighters respond to a grass fire Saturday afternoon on Autumn Flame Drive, in the Chateau Elan community, which is in the Braselton area. Fire crews were faced with windy and dry conditions, however they were able to contain and extinguish the blaze.

Captain Tommy Rutledge said the fire burned approximately five acres. He said it also caused exterior damage to five homes, including damage to A/C units, broken windows, landscaping, and soot damage to siding. Plus, several in-ground electrical transformer, cable and phone boxes had damage.

The fire was listed as accidental and caused by a homeowner using a portable fire pit. No injuries were reported.
