Nigeria — Sixteen persons were burnt beyond recognition in an auto crash yesterday evening along the Abeokuta-Ibadan road while four persons, including a three- year old boy, were said to have been rescued . The accident was believed to have been induced by a raging bush fire along both sides of the road.

Meanwhile, another accident came as yet-to-be-identified gunmen said to be wearing masks at the time of their operation shot and killed eight people Friday night at a beer parlour in Federal Low Cost area of Gombe, the capital of Gombe State.

One of the victims of the attack, Mr Isa Patrick, who narrowly escaped death with a gun shot wound told newsmen in Gombe that he was at the beer parlour since about 7 pm for his usual evening relaxation until around 9 pm when he was forced to run for cover when he heard sporadic sound of gun shots at very close range.

According to him, five people, including the proprietress of the beer parlour were killed instantly, while three others died in the hospital. He added that immediately after the operation, the unknown gunmen left the place without touching a single item , thus give room to speculation that the killers may not be armed robbers.
