Israel / Canada — The City of Vaughan has pledged $10,000 for relief efforts in Israel following deadly wildfires in Carmel Forest.
The donation is being made to the Haifa Foundation Emergency Appeal through the Canadian Committee for the Haifa Foundation, a registered charity.
The fire, which has burned more than 12,000 acres, has displaced 17,000 people and damage is estimated at about $1 billion.
Funds will be used to buy hygiene kits for families, bedding, communication devices and fire fighting equipment.
The forest fires started in early December.
Since 2008, Vaughan has donated funds to disaster relief projects in Italy, China, Haiti, Pakistan and the Philipines.
