China — A brushfire broke out in Xia Yang Village of Haicang District, Xiamen, Fujian, about 9:50am Sunday morning, reports Xiamen Evening News.

The fire spread to the nearby hills at about 11am. Fire fighters, marine police officers, soldiers and nearby villagers participated in the fire fighting operation.

The fire was initially controlled at nightfall but later spread to more hills due to strong winds.

It is reported that the fire had lasted 17 hours before it was put out about 2:00am Monday morning. The city disaster command centre indicated that it still needed to closely monitor the fire overnight, and to put out the fire which could threaten the nearby houses.

Fortunately, the affected hills were uninhabited, but the burned areas have not yet been clear and the cause of the fire has yet to be further investigated.

No casualties were reported.
