Amatoya Fire Recon Vehicle Wins Australian Student Design Award

Australia — Last year when we showed you the Amatoya, a dual cannon bushfire recon vehicle, we sort of failed to mention that it was designed by an Australian Uni student. Well, last week, Liam Ferguson from Monash University took out the James Dyson student design award for his creation.
The vehicle, which was designed in the wake of the wake of the 2009 Victorian bushfires, not only looks like a badass supersoaker on wheels, but combines a series of different technologies to create a safer, more effective recon vehicles for firefighters.
Designer Liam takes home $4000 to put towards his design career, as well as a trip to the Dyson Research Design and Development Centre in the UK, while the Amatoya goes up against winning designs from Germany, Spain, USA and Austria to hopefully be crowned best international student design.
