MP Robert Brokenshire says political correctness is delaying bushfire planning in South Australia.

He says state and regional bushfire management committees have not been approved because of debate over whether enough women nominated for positions.

The Family First MP says he has no objection to women on the committees, but they should be up and running seven months after they got bipartisan support in State Parliament.

He says management plans need to be in place as the threat from bushfires is only months away.

“Political correctness is getting in the way of looking after life and property,” he said.

“I don’t think we’re going to be prepared properly now with the intent of this legislation because here we are in May, we’re gonna see bushfire risk potentially in September-October, so there’s not much time to set this up and plan,” he said.
