Forest fire destroys nearly hundred trees in kishtwar

India — Kishtwar:  Forest fire has destroyed nearly one hundred trees in Kishtwar district of Jammu and kashmir last night, officials said here today.

Soon after the flames emanated from compartment number 65 in the hilly district last evening, about fifteen forest officials and 30 people from adjoining Hullar and Hunjala village rushed to forest areas to extinguish the fire, they said.

However, while they were taking measures to ensure that the fires does not spread further, heavy showers in the afternoon helped in dousing the fire in the forest.

The cause of the fire could not be ascertained so far, the sources said and added the loss was also being ascertained.
