Canadian Deputy Chief Receives Fire Prevention Award

Canada — On Friday, May 2, 2009, Dave Cleaveley and Malcolm Robertson from Aviation Forest Fire Management Centre in Dryden had the privilege of presenting the City of Dryden’s Deputy Fire Chief, Ken Kurz with the Great Lakes Forest Fire Compact Prevention Award.
The Great Lakes Forest Fire Compact is a partnership between the states of Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and the provinces of Ontario and Manitoba. The compact serves as a forum for the exchange of information on common wildfire issues in the Great Lakes region and as a means for initiating prevention and education programs. This award recognizes the dedication and commitment of an individual as it relates to wildfire prevention and education.
In conjunction with his duties as a municipal Deputy Fire Chief with the City of Dryden, Deputy Kurz has spent countless hours involved in public education, awareness and prevention initiatives. He has shown tremendous support and dedication at the municipal, regional and provincial levels of wildfire prevention and this is highlighted through his involvement with the regional FireCon, held annually in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Ken’s work with the FireCon organization committee and his role with the Kenora District Mutual Fire Aid association and Ontario’s Fire Marshalls Public Safety Council is a great asset to the fire program in the West Fire Region of Ontario.
Ken’s comprehensive commitment to fire programs illustrates how fire safety and prevention messages, whether forest, grass or structural type fires can be integrated into an effective education program useful to all levels of government.
Congratulations Deputy Kurz for this achievement and for the years of hard work and dedication to fire prevention and education program in Ontario.
