New Zealand — Samoa’s Disaster management unit are now cleaning and mopping up after a bush fire affected thousands of acres of bushland on Savaii island.

Rain yesterday and this morning have helped to put out the fire, after the acting Prime Minister declared an extension of 48 hours on the state of emergency last night.

The fire came close to residential areas in the two villages of Asau and A’opo.

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.
