The state will cover most of the costs of the large forest fire at Froland, Aust-Agder last week, Minister of Local Government Magnhild Meltveit Kleppa has announced.
First estimates say the total cost for Froland would amount to NOK 60 million (USD 10 million).
Froland mayor Sigurd Pedersen said Monday there was no way the municipality would be able to cover all these costs on its own.
Kleppa will on Tuesday travel to Froland to get first-hand information about the situation, following the largest forest fire in Norwegian history.
The minister said the state would cover at least 50 per cent of the costs, but that details would be worked out after her visit.
