New Zealand — A grass fire at a historic Maori pa site on the southern edge ofNapier yesterday is not thought to be suspicious.
Hamish Smith, station officer at Napier Fire Station, said the alarm wasraised around 2.50pm.
About 20 firefighters fought the blaze at the Otatara Pa site as it spread inlong grass.
While there are few structures at the site, it is of historical significance.
At this stage investigations into the cause were focusing on grass cutting inthe area shortly before the fire began, Mr Smith said.
