USA: Greens criticise Ingram for National Park comments

The East Gippsland Greens are taking Independent MP Craig Ingram to task over his call to log national parks as a fire prevention measure.Mr Ingram says more logging and fuel reduction burning should be used to avoid bushfires like those burning through forests in North America.
The Greens are preparing to run a candidate against Mr Ingram in East Gippsland at the coming election.
Spokesman Kevin Thiele says Mr Ingram’s suggestion is a thinly disguised strategy to log national parks.
“These recent announcements of his talking about how we need to log our forests including protected areas which means parks as a way of protecting ourselves against fire seems a way of grabbing those trees in those parks,” Mr Thiele said.
