Police in North West say three youths are to blame for a series of runaway fires in the province.
The boys admitted scooping honey from a hive using a burning tyre to smoke out bees when the firestarted. The fire was spread by strong winds across thousands of hectares of land.
The North West Disaster Management Committee said that fire damage on 25 farms between Zeerust and Mafikeng was in excess of a million rand. Eight people are being treated for severe burn wounds at hospitals in the district.
