Colorado has joined two other Western states trying to overturn the Clinton administrations Roadless Area Conservation Initiative that aims to ban road construction in 58 million acres of national forests. On 28 March 2001, the state filed a brief with a federal judge in Boise supporting Idaho’s request for an injunction blocking the rule. In addition to filing the brief, Colorado is also considering filing its own suit, on the grounds that the Forest Service did not draft its environmental impact statement properly when forming the measure. Also, the Bush administration will release a report by 4 May 2001 that will address how it wants to address the roadless policy. The policy is scheduled to get into effect 12 May 2001.
