On 7 April 2008, smoke from hundreds of fires mingled with clouds over eastern India, Myanmar, and China. Locations where the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite detected fires are marked in red.

Most of the fires are likely human-caused, either agricultural fires or accidental forest fires.
