Forest Fires in Central America
24 April 2000
The GOES-8 satellite images of 20 and 21 April 2000 reflect the overall fire situation in Central America as it was highlighted in the GFMC reports during the last weeks (starting with the Honduras fire report on 31 March 2000). Heat signatures and smoke can be seen from the larger fires burning in Central America.

Heat signatures (dark red spots) can be seen from fires burning in Guatemala and the Yucatan. Heavy smoke (light red/pink) is also visible over the Gulf of Mexico from the large fires in Guatemala.

Heavy dense smoke ( light yellow) can be seen streaming from the area of the fires burning in northern Guatemala out into the Gulf of Mexico.
