USA: BLM to Review Environmental Impacts on Western Lands

(published by the Society of American Foresters, 31 October 2001)

12 October 2001 – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is planning to conduct an environmental impact statement (EIS) on public lands administered by BLM in the western states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nevada, North and South Dakota, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

The EIS will consider foreseeable natural resources management activities planned in each state, including the reduction and treatment of forest and rangeland fuel, prescribed fire, the restoration of native plant communities, control of invasive plants and noxious weeds, and other ecosystem treatment projects, and will update and replace analyses contained in four existing vegetation treatment and weed management EISs completed between1986-1992.
