Lithgow, New South Wales, Australia — The knowledge and opinions of localpeople about bushfires in the Lithgow area will form the cornerstone of a newBush Fire Risk Management Plan.
Lithgow Bush Fire Management Committee (BFMC) will seek community input inorder to review and rewrite the new Bush Fire Risk Management Plan over the nextfew months.
This is your chance to share with bushfire managers your experiences, yourknowledge of fire history and fire paths, what places you value and whatbushfire risk rating applies to them and what treatment strategies areappropriate, Cr Neville Castle, the BFMC Chairperson for Lithgow, said.
The Lithgow Bush Fire Risk Management Plan ultimately determines suchthings as where hazard reductions are conducted and who is responsible, whichareas require special fire protection and which areas are targeted for communityeducation.
It is essential that the new plan understands and accounts for what localpeople value.

A new bush fire risk planning process being implemented includes extensivecommunity consultation, which actively seeks the opinions of local peoplethrough meetings and other communication activities.
The Lithgow BFMC wants to know:
* What significant places, buildings, environments you think are at risk frombush fires;
* What bush fire treatment strategy should be in place for those assets;
* Your knowledge and experience of fire history and fire paths; and
* Your bush fire management issues and concerns.
Community consultation meeting dates are:
March 8, Hartley Community Hall, 10 am to 2 pm; March 29, Marrangaroo FireStation, 10 am to 2 pm; April 12, Rydal Fire Station, 10 am to 2 pm; April 26,Dark Corner Fire Station, 10 am to 2 pm; and May 10, Cullen Bullen CommunityHall, 9 am to 11.30 am and Glen Alice Community Hall 1 pm to 3 pm.
The Lithgow BFMC is made up of all the organisations with an interest inlocal bush fire management including fire authorities, land managers andemergency services.
