USA — A U.S agency has revealed that 2007 was one of the ten warmest years since 1880.

Preliminary data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, has put 2007 as the eighth warmest year for the U.S since national records began in 1895.

The data does not yet reflect the final three weeks of December but will be updated with the new information in January.

2007 saw severe drought affecting the Southeast and western US, contributing to another extremely active wildfire season.

Fifteen extreme storms occurred in the Atlantic Basin-Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico. Six of the storms developed into hurricanes.

States of emergency were declared in some areas.

Initial data also suggests that sea surface temperatures near the eastern Pacific equator were below average.
