Phoenix Hosts Women in Wildland Fire Boot Camp
The Forest Service is already preparing for next years fire season by hosting the Women in Wildland Fire Boot Camp in Phoenix, AZ this month. Wildlland Fire Fundamentals will be taught at the Boot Camp, which will be held the weekends of September 5-7, and 12-14, 2014.
The first weekend will offer a comprehensive introduction to wildland firefighting, including required training to meet the Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2) qualifications. The required training and field work will be completed the following weekend and enhancement sessions will be offered to help participants seek job opportunities in wildland firefighting. Alumni from previous years will be on hand to share experiences and serve as role models for this years participants.
The training and enhancement sessions focus on basic wildland firefighting, introduction to wildland fire behavior, and human factors on the fireline. Additional sessions include what is firefighting and are you fit to fight fire? The training will be held at the Phoenix Interagency Fire Center at Mesa Gateway Airport.
Media representatives are invited to visit the academy on Saturday, September 13, when students will be practicing their firefighting skills.
