Australia — A BUSHFIRE which had the potential to threaten homes and lives in Australind, near Bunbury has been contained.
A bushfire advice alert is now in place for people between Marriott Road and Treasure Road, east of Old Coast Road, and for people north of the intersection of Old Coast Road and the Australind Bypass in the Leschenault area, 6km north of Australind in the Shire of Harvey.
The fire that started near Rosamel Road at 2.30pm on Friday has now been fully contained.
Fire crews will work throughout the night to strengthen containment lines.
There is no longer any threat to lives or homes but there is a lot of smoke in the area that will impact the Old Coast Road.
The bushfire is fully contained but there are unburnt pockets within the containment lines which will continue to burn overnight and on Saturday.
The cause of the fire is unknown. Further south in Kin Kin, a “watch and act” warning remains in place for a bushfire that was sparked on Tuesday afternoon by lightning strikes and has burnt through 1232 hectares.
Police discovered human remains in a burnt out shack in Kin Kin on Friday. The warning also applies to the Andrew and Cardac state forests in the shires of Manjimup and Nannup.
The fires in these areas have been contained but are not under control. And on Perth’s northeastern fringes, a “watch and act” warning has been downgraded to an “advice” alert for people in Gibbard Place, Clarkson Road and Taylor Road in the eastern part of Bullsbrook. The fire was reported at 2.34pm and about four hectares of grassland has been burnt.
