Kangla, Manipur, India — Ten houses of L Maipi village including that of thechief of the village located some 16 km away from the border town of Moreh inChandel district were completely razed to the ground by a wild fire which brokeout today at around 10.40 am.
On hearing the news of the fire a joint team comprising of police from Morehpolice station, representatives of the AMSU, Chandel district, KSO, Moreh branch,Hills Tribal Council accompanied by a journalists team visited the place andtook stock of the situation.
The origin of the fire could not be ascertained but there is suspicion the firespread from a wild fire in the nearby forest.
All the belongings of the 10 families were lost in the fire that engulfed thevillage inhabited by around 170 heads and having a total of 21 homesteads.
The houses belonged to Jamkhothang Baite, chief of the village, Thangmang Baite,Holkhomang Baite, Ngumbul Baite, Thongjam Baite, Jamthang Baite, Jamsei Baite,Hemsei Lhungtim, Tongjalet Haokip and Thangkholal Touthang.
The police could not immediately assess the property lost in the fire but saidthat the members of the affected families were left only with the clothing theywere with.
The president of the AMSU, Chandel committee, Kh Amujao has assured of allpossible help from the union`s side to the victims.
