SEVERAL bushfires have flared across Tasmania as strong winds and soaring temperatures have stretched emergency crews.
A fire at Lower Snug was reported about 2.25 this afternoon and more than 10 crews are fighting the blaze which has jumped Old Station Rd and is burning in the Coningham Nature Reserve, the Mercury reports.
The Tasmanian Fire Service have advised residents of Old Station Road, Conningham area who are not at home should return home and make preparations to defend their property from a bushfire which is predicted to affect these areas.
The TSF said roads might be affected by smoke and fire vehicles and urged residents to drive carefully and turn on headlights.
Meanwhile, a fire broke out at Rokeby Hills late this afternoon. A huge pall of smoke could be seen from the city.
Acton residents are being urged to return home as a bushfire threatens homes in the suburb.
An out-of-control bushfire started in the foothills of Clarendon Vale earlier today but is now spreading towards Acton.
Homes in Tara Drive have made 000 calls to the fire service reporting smoke and flames in the area and the Tasmania Fire Service has asked residents to return home and prepare for the fire.
The fire has burnt 2ha and crews are using a helicopter to reach parts of the fire which are burning in inaccessible terrain.
Other fires are buring at Bothwell, Rosebery, Ravenswood, South Port, Strahan and in the state’s north east.
