The 1989 Forest Fire Season

The Federal Forest Research Station of Austria recently finalized the 1989 fire report. A total number of 88 fires affected an area of 52.3 ha of forest land. Half of all fires burned during the spring season. While ca. 50 % percent of all fires nationwide were caused by negligence, the State of Vorarlberg showed a relatively high proportion of lightning fires attributing to ca. 10 % of fire causes all over the country.
