Fires in Southeastern Australia

20April 2006

Dozens of fires were actively burning in central New South Wales, Australia, on 19 April 2006, when the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite passed over. Fires are marked in red. This part of New South Wales has some natural grassland, but is dominated by pastures and croplands. These fires may be intentional land management fires set by the area’s farmers and ranchers.
