On 7 October the Fire Danger Index of the Forest Fire Association (FFA) was 78 Red. The Advanced Fire Information System (AFIS)detected a unusual high number of fires in Mpumalanga. Obviously the FFA FDI calculation correlates very well with the actual fire situation:
