The following MODIS scenes show fires burning in Central America on 04 March 2004. Countries in this region generally make intensive use of fire in agricultural activities, especially in the burning of pastures and fields.

Programme for the  Detection of High-Temperature Events (HTE) – CONABIO
Since 1999 the Mexico National Comission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (CONABIO) offers a daily updated website for the detection of wildland fires and land-use fires by detecting high-temperature events using remote sensing techniques (Programa para detección de puntos de calor mediante técnicas de percepción remota).

For 04 March 2004 high temperature events have been detected for the countries Guatemala and El Salvador.
