Canada: Integrated Resource Management in Ecosystems Dominated By High Intensity Fire: Challenges, Tools and Solutions, 8 – 10 November 2000

Workshop on:

Integrated Resource Management in Ecosystems Dominated By High Intensity Fire: Challenges, Tools and Solutions

Ramada Hotel & Conference Centre, 11834 Kingsway,
8-10 November 2000, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

Throughout Canada, management of wildland and forest ecosystems where high intensity, large-scale fire is a common form of disturbance poses a real challenge to resource managers. With the focus on sustainable forests for social, ecological and economic needs, management strategies in these ecosystems must deal with the impacts of large-scale fire on the landscape or take steps to minimize the risk of large-scale high intensity fire. This Nationally open workshop will provide the opportunity for participants to examine the issues and problems associated with these ecosystems, be exposed to existing tools and techniques which may be used when developing management strategies and through group sessions develop some possible solutions.

Audience

Resource managers, technical and professional, who are responsible for the management of ecosystems that are prone to large-scale, high intensity fire. In addition, foresters, biologists, ecologists, municipal planners and other land managers who work in fire dependent ecosystems will also be interested in these proceedings.
