AUSTRALIA – The bushfire burned 620ha including the southern section of track near the camp site, between Sandpatch and Albany.

A Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attraction spokeswoman said the camp site would remain closed indefinitely.

Images from Bibbulmun Track Foundation website show the remnants of Sandpatch camping site, located 13km from the Muttonbird camp site.

The Sandpatch, the Bibbulmun Track’s southernmost camp site, and Muttonbird camp sites were built in 2012 to replace the Hidden Valley camp site which was relinquished as part of the Albany Wind Farm expansion. Earlier this year, in January, the Bibbulmun Track’s Helena camp site in Mundaring was destroyed by a deliberately lit fire.
